Jackie and I love to photograph babies.  We are parents of three daughters and grandparents.  Our family is growing rapidly.  We know how quickly time goes when you're busy raising a family.  When I see my grandkids I catch myself wondering, "When did she start to look like that" or how old was he when got those freckles?"  And no age reflects such dramatic changes in appearance then the first years!

Sheena and Toby's western style wedding was located at a  rustic western ranch in the Osage hills of Oklahoma.  http://bridlecreekok.com   The tall grass prairie all around with the rolling Oklahoma hills in view to the horizon all added to the real moments of this  cowboy-cowgirl wedding day.  The decor was burlap, barrels and mason jars.  Boots and Cowboy hats were the preferred attire among the many friends and family who came to celebrate this joyful day in their lives.  You can see the emotion and genuine love on each expression below.    When you get to the bottom leave some love.

But what about the photos?  It all depends on the photographer.  The photographer should be ready and look for ways to still get unique photos.   There are ways to protect the camera from rain.  The clouds and light rain can make some very dramatic photos.  Water puddles give opportunity for reflections.   It also depends on the couple.  If it rains on your wedding day don't get all stressed out and give up.  Be proactive and look for the a way to get good photos.  This is still your story.   If the bride and groom are daring enough they can get under an umbrella and make some very interesting images.   The best advice is to be prepared and look for the opportunities.

A special family portrait.

This family session was very special to me because Roy and I have been friends since grade school.  We both went to the same school since 3rd grade in a small town in Oklahoma.  Over the years we lost track of each other and only in the last few years have we reconnected.  It was great to visit with him and meet his wife Terri.  His 4 boys are just like  the way I remember Roy was when he was in high school.  Thanks Roy for reaching out and letting us photograph your family. 

FIVE huge mistakes when selecting a wedding photographer

Here is a list of some of the things you should consider when looking for a  wedding photographer. 

//1 Not meeting with the person photographing the wedding.

When selecting a wedding photographer you are selecting more than just a photographer for your wedding day. You are hiring a wedding photographer that will be with you, your family and your group all day on your wedding day. Personality is a huge part of the selection process and should not be overlooked or discounted in any way.

Your  wedding photographer’s personality can set the tone for your entire wedding day and your bridal party. Ultimately it can impact your wedding photography altogether. You will more than likely be working with your wedding photographer for a year, or longer in some cases, by the time you factor in your engagement session and post wedding photography and albums.

//2 Only considering the price.  

While price is always a factor when selecting your wedding photographer, it should NOT be the only thing that matters. If your determined to find the cheapest price then your not looking for us.  We are not the cheapest and we are not the most expensive.  There is always someone who is cheaper.  All too often we hear horror stories from brides who made a decision for their wedding photography based purely on price. It turns out to be foolish in the end. When its all said and done, your wedding photography will be all you have to remember your wedding day.

//3 Only getting the digital files on a disc and not thinking about a wedding album.

What will you do with all your images from your wedding photographer? Most people opt to place them in a beautifully designed wedding album that your wedding photographer should provide you with. Don’t underestimate the importance of a wedding album from your wedding day. This is your first family heirloom and your one keepsake you will have forever to remember your  wedding.  If you are only getting the disc and are planning to make your own wedding album please don't put it off.  Can you imagine your disc of wedding photos sitting in a drawer for years.  That is why it is sometimes better to have your wedding photographer design the album.  

When selecting a  wedding photographer you should look for an album that best represents you and your new family. Wedding albums come in all shapes and sizes. Questions you should ask. Your  wedding photographer 1) How many pages come in the wedding album? 2) How many images will be in the wedding album? 3) What leather options are available for my wedding album?

//4 Not planning for enough time to capture the day.

Something often overlooked when selecting a wedding photographer is the number of hours that will be offered during the coverage of your wedding. Typically you will want your wedding photographer to be with you to document all the moments of your wedding day. After all, that’s what you are hiring them for. That being said, typical coverage requirements for your day is 6 - 8 hours.   Jackie and I are involved with our couples weeks before the wedding planning a time-line so the day will go smoothly.  

//5 Only having one wedding photographer can be a mistake.

How many  wedding photographers will you need? Most weddings need at least two wedding photographers. This ensures that your wedding photographer is focused on working with your group and directing the day and allows the second wedding photographer to have coverage going on at the same time.

We find that by having two wedding photographers at your wedding, your wedding photography needs can best be met all while ensuring that nothing gets missed from your big day.

The First Look,  Can it make for a better wedding day?

The decision to see the bride before the ceremony has become  a popular trend in recent years and for good reason.  I would never challenge anyone's desire to wait until they are at the wedding altar to see the bride in her wedding dress.  That is completely up to the couple.  However, I will point out that the tradition comes from the days of arranged marriages and is not based on any Bible text that I know of.  Sure, not everyone sees each other before the ceremony, but many do and it provides an opportunity for some wonderful dynamics in photos and a wonderful way to enjoy the wedding day.  I could write pages and pages of the experiences I have had with couples, but I will let theses wedding images do the talking. 

The groom is not the only one that cries.  This was in St Louis.

The first look is always an exciting experience for the Bride and Groom and for the photographer.   Since the couple has now seen each other, the wedding party and the family photos can be completed before the ceremony begins which means that after the ceremony the couple can go straight to their reception to greet their guests.

We enjoyed photographing this beautiful wedding. The sweet couple has been best friends since childhood.  Who would have thought all those years ago their love would blossom to such a wonderful day.  A few hours before the beginning of their wedding it rained, thundered and loud sounds of lightening pierced the ears.  However, even the rain ended with a beautiful rainbow shining above the place where the wedding would take place.  The mother of the groom remarked that the rainbow was a sign of good luck.  By the time of the wedding, all was well and the friends and family of the couple were able to witness the beginning of a new family brimming with love and joy and beauty.

Bright smiles and laughter filled the day as Amber and Charles were married on this spring day in Stillwater Oklahoma.  On the campus of Oklahoma State University near theta pond Charles and Amber had their wedding ceremony.  The ceremony was on the porch of Willard Hall on OSU campus.  

Charles and Amber meet at OSU in ROTC.  They are both in the Army and plan to serve our country in  military service.  The ceremony include a saber arch for them to walk through.  These are some of the highlights of their Big Day.
